How to measure your Amstaff for good fit Collar:
Please be advised that:
- Always measure your dog neck circumference with the flexible measuring tape.
- Specify neck size of your dog and we will make this size fit on central hole.
- There will be total of 5 holes and distance between each 2 holes is 1 inch (25 mm).
- For example: your dogs neck size is 20 inches (50 cm). Collar will fit on central hole at 20 inches (50 cm).
- There will be 2 smaller size holes - 18 inch (45 cm) and 19 inch (47.5 cm).
- There will be 2 bigger size holes - 21 inch (52.5 cm) and 22 inch (55 cm).
- There will also be tip of the collar after last hole about 4 inch long (10 cm).
- Those are handcrafted collars and some sizes will differ a little (not in significant way).
- When you measure already received collar on the dog you have to measure the inner part of the collar with the flexible measuring tape.
- 2 ply leather collars if measured laying flat on the table are 2 inch bigger than if measured on the dog.
How to determine a suitable collar width?
The wider the collar is the less pressure it puts on certain points on your dogs neck. For example, a 1-inch (25 mm) wide collar will be not so comfortable as the one with the 3 inch (75 mm) width, because all the pressure will be applied over a smaller surface area.
Please be advised! Wider collars are also heavier and should not be purchased for dogs with short necks.
If you are not sure which width to buy, please choose the 1 ½ inch (40 mm) width, which is the most popular and functional average collar width for most of the bigger size dog breeds.
How to determine a suitable size (length) of the collar?
Purchasing a collar for an adult dog is the easiest, cause they stay the same weight and size for most of their life, therefore when you purchase a collar for a fully grown dog the adjustments will be minimal and you will probably use only one hole to buckle the collar.
Some exceptions are dogs with long fur or a lot of fur which go through season grooming and hair cuts. For these dogs you should: measure the neck circumference right after a haircut (for minimum adjustment) or measure the neck circumference when your dog has the longest fur (for maximum adjustment).
